5 Top Reasons Why Women LOVE Shoes

I love shoes. I fell in love with shoes when I was a small girl. Dressing up in beautiful shoes made me feel pretty and elegant. All my gal friends are shoe lovers too. Who doesn’t love shoes? I know men love their shoes too. Trust me; we ladies are very addicted to the world of shoes. Shoes are like my best friend. I love any designs from sexy wedges, kitten-heel pumps, ballet flats, stilettos, sky-high boots, pumps, and ankle boots (my favorite). I love to rock my shoes in style with a bold, fashion statement. My absolute favorite classic wardrobe piece would be a beautiful simple black dress paired up with sexy black pumps, and white pearls. I call that sexy, bold, and elegant. Wouldn’t you?

Here are the top five reasons why women love shoes:

1. Shoes “make or break” a woman’s look. On a special evening or occasion, it is always nice to look your best in a glamorous outfit with the right kind of shoes. Right? For example, if a woman wore a very nice purple dress and paired it up with hideous zebra print pumps, it may be a fashion statement gone drastically wrong. This could instantly be called a “dead-end” style. The type of shoes being worn with any outfit should speak volume about your personality and style. This would definitely “make” a woman’s look instead of setting an example of a fashion blooper.

2. Shoes make women “versatile.” Women love the fact that shoes can make us and our clothing attire versatile. It gives women the option of creating a different look by just changing our shoes. I remembered working as a receptionist at a spa during an evening closing shift and had plans to meet up with a friend for drinks. Since there isn’t a dress code at the spa, I wore my nice pair of black kitten-heel pumps with leggings and a dressy blouse. After my shift ended, I switched my shoes to an elegant pair of dark chocolate pumps. I did not even have to change my outfit.

3. Shoes make women look beautiful. Honestly in my lifetime, I have seen a lot of gorgeous women with stylish shoes. Not only do shoes make women feel sexy and beautiful, but transform the look of a woman as well. High-heels not only help increase our height, but give the woman’s body a longer, leaner silhouette. Wearing high-heels is great for women of all body types and sizes. So grab a high-heel ladies and walk in style!

4. Shoes are FUN, FUN, and FUN! That’s right ladies, I’m sure you agree with me on that statement. Shoes add style to our fashion and lives. Pairing up your shoes with different outfits is absolutely fun indeed. Even dressing up a pair of stylish shoes with a plain dress will make it look dressier. From a plain tee-shirt and jeans to a white top and Capri shorts, you can definitely mix in different styles of fun high-heels for a beautiful style. Experiment with different types of clothing and shoes!

5. Shoes come in many varieties. Women’s shoes come in all different types of styles, shapes, and colors. My gal friend and I had a conversation about pumps and how she would definitely own the same pair of heels with different colors. I call that “shoe heaven.” From wedges, stilettos, ankle boots, and so much more, shoes come in all different colors, shapes, and styles that women can’t get enough of! Some men may not understand our shoe “fetish,” but shoes are a woman’s best friend.

Burlesque Beauty: Dita Von Teese

At only 5’5 and 114 pounds, Dita Von Teese is rumored to have worn a very tight corset to bed every night. She is a famous burlesque artist, designer, model, and actress. As a young teenager, Von Teese was given her first bra by her mother made out of cotton. She was very displeased with the plain look of the bra hoping to receive a lacy, garment piece like from fashion magazines. Dita’s growing fascination for old 1940’s cinema and classic, iconic style developed at a very young age with the influence of her mother’s love in fashion and old Hollywood films. Von Teese studied ballerina which landed her talents in many burlesque shows and runways. Von Teese was inspired to create her own line of burlesque clothing, and studied costume designing in college.

For her bold looks, red lips, and creamy porcelain skin, this Armenian beauty does put on quite a show at all her burlesque dance shows. This elegant, classic beauty is famous for dancing in a martini glass routine. At the age of eighteen, she worked as a stripper to jump start her career into glamour modeling. She began working as a fetish model creating “pin-up” looks imitating Bettie Page looks in photo shoots. Von Teese is also well known for wearing corsets for many years. Therefore, wearing very tight corsets had reduced her waist line as small as 22 inches. So tiny! Von Teese has done various photo shoots for Playboy, Bizarre, and even graced the cover pages of a Japanese bondage fashion magazine.

As “the Queen of Burlesque,” Von Teese has been performing famous, elaborate shows incorporating her own creativity, costumes, design, and concept for all her stage performances. She had stated that all her burlesque shows “puts the tease back into striptease,” by creating the ideas of long, classic dance shows with different props and characters, inspired by her love for 1930’s and 1940’s films. Many of her dance routines include a carousal horse, claw foot bath tub, and a giant powder compact. These famous items are some of Von Tesse's favorite pieces to use for performance shows.

In Hollywood, Von Teese is known for being on the “best dressed” list. Having a love for high-end fashion, Von Teese can be seen wearing Christian Dior and Marc Jacobs. With many celebrities hiring their own personal stylists, Von Teese is against that idea. She actually is her own stylist picking out her own signature looks and does her own make up and hair.

Dita Von Teese was once married to rocker, Marilyn Manson. In 2006, Von Teese filed for divorce from the rocker and claims he had an affair with another woman. She is now happily dating French aristocrat, Count Louis Marie de Castelbajac.

She is not only breathtakingly gorgeous, beautiful, and exotic, but a true beauty in Hollywood. She reminds me of a modern day Marilyn Monroe. These elegant beauties have quite a lot in common from fashion attires, famous beauty marks, and sex appeal. Von Teese had been open about her plastic surgery on her breasts and an artificial beauty mark. Her never-ending love for fashion, beauty, and famous burlesque shows makes her a prominent key figure in the world of burlesque entertainment.

"Married To Rock"

The new season premiere of “Married to Rock” is airing this Sunday, November 7th on E! Online network. “Married to Rock” is featuring four wives married to rock and roll musicians in the entertainment industry. It takes you behind the scenes of all the drama, chaos, action, adventure, and of course, the lovely ladies married to these rock star hubbies. My ex was a rock and roll musician so I can totally relate to these beautiful wives. My first glimpse of a musician’s lifestyle, career, management crews, studio recording, wild fans, and everything else related to their life can be very hectic and wild. Believe me, it is not an easy roller coaster ride.

The ladies of “Married to Rock” include Susan Holmes McKagen, AJ Celi, Etty Farrell, and Josie Stevens. Susan Holmes McKagen married to rocker, Duff McKagen, is a world wide international model rated as one of the top ten highest paid fashion models in the industry. She had walked down the runways for Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Chanel, and Valentino just to name a few and had also been featured in many huge advertising campaigns for big name brands all across the world. Susan had just recently launched her own swimwear line and working on an autobiography book. AJ Celi who is married to rocker husband, Billy Duffy, is the VIP director of Playhouse Nightclub in Hollywood. Celi had also helped launched many famous nightclubs in New York City, including the Hamptons. Hong Kong Asian beauty, Etty Farrell, married to singer of Jane’s Addiction Perry Farrell, is a professional dancer and chorographer. Etty had been in various music videos with Madonna, Ricky Martin, Eminem, and Bon Jovi. She currently goes on tour with her husband and two children. Lastly, gorgeous blonde Josie Stevens whose husband is Steve Stevens, is a successful hair stylist and make up artist. She currently does all hair and make up for her husband’s band on tour and for public appearances. Josie is also currently working on a clothing line with the launch of her famous scented “candles” soon. These rocker wives are certainly in for a wild ride with their famous rock star husbands.

Josie Stevens is my favorite “Married to Rock” wife. Even though I am not a huge fan of the whole Hollywood plastic figure, Josie is a very independent hard-working woman. I can also deeply relate to her on fashion, shoes, hair, and make up. Not only does she have a passionate love for beauty, but loves to make people beautiful as well. Many people may think of her as this very bubbly, “valley-girl,” but I think she is absolutely funny, smart, and adorable. Josie also has the “biggest” hair out of all the ladies in the show. I am a huge fan of “big” hair, so I definitely love how she creates amazing hair and make up looks. Who is your favorite “Married to Rock” wife?

What to expect from these stunningly, gorgeous bombshell wives? A bit of everything from behind the scenes footages with each of the famous wives, tours with husbands, appearances, glamorous events, luxurious lifestyle, and of course, drama land. Fans will be in for a surprise treat from these beautiful wives. Definitely turn on your television set and tune into the new premiere of “Married to Rock” this Sunday, November 7th on E! Online!

Forgo the Stripper Setup: Be a Female Icon for Halloween

If you’re still scrambling for the perfect Halloween costume and you’re sick of all the “SEXY! Fill in the Blank” costumes for women, take heart: this awesome website, called Take Back Halloween, has everything you need to get ready for Halloween.

The site is not a store. Instead, it lists all kinds of amazing iconic female costumes—from goddesses to warrior women, queens to famous women to even glamorous sexy costumes for those who still want to dress sexy, but without the commercialized look. Each costume has a basic description of the character, which is followed by the simplest yet most effective way to achieve that character’s look. These descriptions often include acquiring another character costume that can be purchased—using Trinity’s costume (from The Matrix) for the Medusa costume based on lovely Uma Thurman’s character in Percy Jackson: The Lightening Thief, for example, or wigs made especially for certain costumes. Lots of homemade ideas are also included.

Once you visit the site, you’ll probably want to browse around forever; I know I did. The creators of the site (The Real History Project) really went all out with graphics, how-to guides, links to where you can get what you need, and more. Browsing through these made me not only want to change my costume (Boudicca! No, Inanna! No, Persephone!) but also to whip out my sketchbook and start dreaming. That’s how inspiring this site is.

The only problem is that it shouldn’t have to be this way. These types of awesome costumes—with or without a SEXY! headline—should be readily available across the nation at costume stores already. The fact that we feel like it’s revolutionary and moving and cool only heightens the fact that it’s unique—and that most stores still create costumes to objectify women into sexual playthings rather than creative—or, dare I say it, scary—beings that men get to morph into on Halloween night. Sure, if we make our own costumes at home we can do that (which is much more fun, anyway), but if you’re scrambling, women should have the same right as men to be able to run to the store, grab an appropriate, fun costume, and be on our merry way.

Until that day comes, I say we all just stop buying costumes like that, period, and make our own, whether you want it sexy or not. (Check out the Rita Hayworth costume guide, for example.)

The “Little Black Dress”

As a small girl, I was always fascinated with the glamorous fashion and beauty of my mother. Not only did I look up to my mother, she always resembled beautiful fashion pieces in front of my eyes. I have seen old pictures of my mother when she was younger and many of her popular fashion pieces that she wore gracefully were astoundingly beautiful. My mother was a huge fan of very old drama movies, and many of the fashion displayed in the films inspired the way she dressed growing up as a woman. What really inspired me to write this article on the “Little Black Dress,” was my inspiration from the Audrey Hepburn film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

Simply, the Little black dress is an evening or cocktail dress, cut quite short and designed in a very elegant fashion for the woman’s body. The dress originated from the 1920’s from designs of Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel was a famous French fashion designer during the 20th century era with a passion and emphasis on menswear and women’s fashion. Her elaborate creativity and design in fashion has made Chanel an important figure in 20th century fashion. In today’s fashion, the Little black dress is considered as an essential wardrobe fashion piece that completes the look. The Little black dress is worn for mostly special occasions and best worn with a jacket and sexy pumps for a daytime business wear or worn with elegant jewelry and accessories for an evening night out. Whatever the occasion may be, the Little black dress is always a well-known powerful fashion statement.

During the 1920’s era, black was often worn for a period of mourning for a lost loved one and considered inappropriate to be worn outside under such circumstances. During the medieval times, many women wore different types of black dresses for special ceremonies, weddings, funerals, and sad occasions. It was also common for women during World War 1 and the Spanish flu outbreak to dress in black publicly. This was to symbolize the many deaths during this tragic time. Many women during the Great Depression era wore black dresses during this very tough time and era. From the past years of the famous Little black dress being popular amongst fashion and difficult era times, the famous Little black dress is still highly respected and worn throughout the 21st century.

Famous actress Audrey Hepburn wore a stunningly beautiful Little black dress in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” as Holly Golightly in this romantic comedy film. The actress wore the famous Little black dress accessorized with stunning white cream pearls with large squared frame black sunglasses and swanky black kitten heel pumps to complete the wardrobe look. Not only is the famous Little black dress classy, chic, beautiful, and fashionable, women around the world should definitely own a sexy, yet simple elegant black dress as part of their wardrobe. Being deeply inspired by this modern dress, I am yet to find my own “Little black dress.”

Dress for Less at Ross!

This past weekend, my sweet best friend and I decided to meet up for a “girl’s night out,” for some fun. Just recently, we both went through a very tough chapter in our lives and wanted to get our minds off of stressful things. We made plans a few hours before meeting up for the night. This was especially great for me since I was going to spend some quality time with my friend and that it would help me relieve some stress off my shoulders that had lingered on my body for quite some time now. I also needed some emotional support and love from my friend who was going through something similar to mine.

As I was getting ready to meet with my friend, I looked through my wardrobe closet to decide what the hell I was going to wear that evening. I am a bit high-maintenance in the fashion department because I am a huge fan of fashion and have always been since I was a child. When I was a little girl, I would remember watching my mother getting dressed up for a special night out with my father. My mother always wore wonderful, beautiful fashion pieces. I admired her beauty in fashion which showed off her classic elegance in the way she wore the clothes. My mother wore clothes that defined who she was which strikes sexy to me. I decided to wear black and white for the evening. I wore classic black leggings, checkered piece black and white top, and of course, my signature black jacket. I topped my outfit with black ankle boots.

For the evening, my friend and I decided to get drinks at a restaurant before heading to the local casino in town to end our fun night out. After we got drinks, my friend and I were admiring each others outfits for the evening and as we got into the car, my friend wanted to shop first. It was close to 9 p.m. and the only store my friend could think of that was open at this time was Ross Dress for Less. When it comes to fashion, I love shopping at Ross getting great deals on clothing, shoes, and accessories. My friend quickly drove to Ross and we just made it in time to shop. The Ross store closes at 9:30. We got there about 8:50. This gave us enough time to shop.

My friend and I are a huge fan of shoes. We went directly to the shoe department and saw the same similar black heeled boots in different sizes. I took my boot size off the shoe rack and looked at other shoes that may spark my attention. I finally saw a pair of open-peeped royal blue heel shoes that was lying in front of my eyes. I immediately took the shoes off the rack and tried both of the boots and royal blue heels on. I wasn’t too in love with the black boots, but when I tried on the royal blue heels, I was definitely in love. There was something beautiful about those shoes. I am not a big fan of the color blue, but wearing a nice exotic shoe spells “sexy” to me. The price on the shoes? $35! Not bad. I continued shopping through the store and a black striped cardigan and charcoal gray top caught my eye. The clothing pieces were just $10 each! Score!

As I made my way to the check out counter, I only paid about $60 for a pair of shoes, cardigan, and top. What a deal. Since the economy is tough at this time, many people are trying so hard to save money. If you want to save money on clothing, come to Ross. Ross always has great deals on brand name items from clothing, shoes, accessories, bedding, kitchenware, and much more.

Heidi Klum is Leaving Victoria’s Secret

That’s right folks; Heidi Klum is leaving Victoria’s Secret. After gracing the runway since 2002, the former “Angels” model decides to hang up her wings and cat walk away from the world’s most famous influential brands. The former supermodel recently announced her departure from Victoria’s Secret during the Paris Fashion Week and that she will not be attending the annual show held in November 2010. The exotic German beauty refused to disclose more information when coming to her final exclusive decision. After famous iconic “angel’s” models Tyra Banks and Gisele Bundchen left the runway, Klum took over as the highest position of Victoria’s Secret angels in the company. She did though expressed her appreciation, gratitude, and happiness for being honored to have served as an “angel” through an incredible journey of live shows and events she has participated in throughout her supermodel career.

So what is next for the former “angels” model? As a mother of four children and married to musician Seal, life has been fully packed for this busy mom. Not only is her personal life filled with family bliss, Klum has ventured onto other projects of her own. Fans can still catch a glimpse of the gorgeous beauty on “Project Runway” with Tim Gunn on Life channel. She won’t be leaving the fashion industry soon since she is still under construction and preparing to launch her new fitness line apparel on Amazon anytime soon. Mostly importantly, this hot mama of four and married to the most talented musician in the world will focus more on her family as well.

Since fans have gracefully watched her through the years, they will sure be in for a complete new surprise and treat with what this former sexy supermodel has in store next for the world. Are you folks ready? Klum has proven through time that she definitely knows the secret of achieving the perfect silhouette and ultimate body. After the birth of her fourth child, Klum shocked the world with her beautifully toned body just after a few weeks of intense, grueling training to get her body back into shape again. Her secret to diet and fitness? Well, it does not sound as high maintenance as you think. To achieve this former supermodel’s body, you must:

            -Eat healthy snacks

            -Eat small portioned meals

-No munching on food after 8:00 p.m.

            -Incorporate high-protein food

            -Include 90 minute workout sessions

With Heidi Klum leaving Victoria’s Secret, an empty spot remains for the leading VS Angel. There are though some possible candidates. Since Miranda Kerr and Douzten Kroes are expectant soon-to-be mothers, there are huge chances that Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio may take the title of the leading VS Angel. In the meantime, fans should just need to stay tuned. The former supermodel did say that she will never reveal what Victoria’s secret really is. Ever. The mystery is still unsolved.

Where are All the Female Villain Costumes?

It’s Halloween season, and though I’m as excited as ever, I’m getting pretty sick of seeing the lack of variety in female costumes. Why does everything have to be preceded with SEXY! to be considered a female costume while the guys get all of the cool masks, fake blood and guts, monsters, and villains? Guys get Freddy Krueger; girls get SEXY!Freddy. (Is that not the most ridiculous, non-scary, non-Halloween costume you’ve ever seen?) The point is to be scary, not sexy. Do any costume makers out there even have women in mind when they design costumes, or are they all meant to simply reinforce the status quo and make men want to screw around in the graveyard come Halloween night?

Even when you search for “female villains,” the results typically show “hottest female villains!” What the hell? Male villains, though sometimes hot, are much more renowned for their fear factor. Female villains are also often simply the males’ sidekicks, or called a villain for being a bitch rather than a real scary person (such as Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada).

In retaliation, I think we should all simply stop buying costumes and start making our own. Here are some fun scary female costumes I was thinking about using this year.

Mrs. Lovett (from Sweeney Todd): Yes, the Helena Bonham Carter version did show some cleavage, but with those long black skirts, creepy makeup, wild hair, and bloody props, I think this would be so much fun to do!

The Red Queen: You can tell I love Helena Bonham Carter! However, Queen Redd in Frank Beddor’s Looking Glass Wars series is far more sinister and would be an epic costume.

Annie Wilkes from Misery: Nobody does scary better than the awesome Kathy Bates in this film version of Stephen King’s novel.

The Wicked Witch: This one’s been done over and over again, but going as Elphaba from Wicked would be fun—of course, she’s not as much a villain so much as an anti-hero, but imagine if you could get your partner to go as Fiyero (from the novel, not the musical)! Those would be some cool costumes.

Erzebet Bathory: The “blood countess” who killed hundreds of young girls to bathe in their blood will always live in infamy, and she’s surely much more sinister than the Jack the Rippers you’re bound to run across on Halloween.

Nurse Ratched: Instead of wearing a SEXY!nurse costume, why not go for this horror of all horrors instead? (I actually named my elliptical trainer after this beastly character from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.)

My “Classic Bob”

Just about 2 years ago, I decided to drive down to my local downtown salon and try out a new cut, the classic bob. It was a nice family owned hair salon that specializes in both haircutting and skincare. Before coming in for my appointment, I had looked through hundreds of hair magazines. My main focus was finding that “right” bob for me. At that time, the “bob” was all over the celebrity pages of magazines, television shows, and I even spotted some ladies sporting the “bob” in public. I thought it would be a great idea to try out a new cut I’ve never done before since I always stuck with my original long haired layered look with side swept bangs. I can be a risk-taker at times. This was a risk I was certainly not prepared for.

The day finally came to experience my first ever “bob” cut. I had my hair stylist’s business card in my hand and waited at the salon lobby ready to be called in for my haircut. I knew about my hairstylist after driving by his old salon he was selling and called his number a couple days before my initial arrival at the salon. His name was Mark Zanetto, an amazing hairstylist in the business for 30+ years doing his only desired passion, hair.

He finally called my name and generously asked me if I needed any water or tea during my service. I politely asked for green tea. Drinking tea is one of my favorite therapeutic drinks at any salon. It helps me calm my mood and relaxes my body down during my service. My hair stylist, Mark came back with my hot green tea and asked me what made me come into the salon today and for what kind of look I was aiming for. The consultation went amazing and I showed him the picture of the “bob” I wanted. I specifically told Mark not to cut the “bob” too high, but at the right length for my facial features. I asked him during the consultation if my round pear shaped face was suitable for this haircut. He gladly said, “Absolutely girl!” His words made me feel so good when he started cutting my thick long hair. I looked down at the floor and couldn’t believe how much he was cutting off. I panicked a little bit, but was thinking if Mark is in the hair business for years, he must absolutely know what he is doing right?

I’ve gone from stylist after stylist in the past and had a great feeling about Mark and my new cut that was soon to be revealed. As I sipped my sweet green tea, I kept reminiscing about my new haircut and what it was going to turn out like. A mix of good and bad feelings went through my head. Was I going to like it or hate it?

Finally, during the last snips and finishing touches on my hair, it was almost the premiere of my new “bob.” As Mark added shiny hair serum and slowly misted my hair with a sweet scented hairspray, he took out his famous huge black mirror for me to take a look at the back of my new “bob.” I looked at my hair and was stunned and amazed. My mouth completely dropped wide open and a huge smile brushed across my face. I was completely satisfied and content with my new “bob.” The haircutting experiencing was a success and Mark did everything to make me a happy client. Thus, that was one of the most special moments of my life and I will never forget that “bob” experience with Mark.
